What roles did women play in ancient Persia? How did their status change over the centuries, and what connections can be drawn to contemporary Iranian society?
This lecture explores the history of women in Persia and Iran from the Achaemenid Empire to the present day. Drawing on archaeological evidence, historical sources and cultural history, participants will learn about influential women, social structures and changing gender roles across different periods. The course also examines how historical developments continue to shape debates on identity, participation and women’s rights in Iran today.
The lecture is held in English and requires no prior knowledge.
